Polymer Group Laboratories
Equipment Available in the Polymer Engineering Laboratory
v Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC):
One of the common tests for examining the behavior of polymers against heat is Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). By performing this test, the melting temperature, glass transition temperature, crystallinity temperature, crystallinity percentage, heat capacity, and also the curing analysis of thermoset resins can be obtained.

Device Specifications:
The Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) available in the Polymer Engineering Laboratory is manufactured by ZUFA, China. This device is equipped with complete and comprehensive software for performing tests and viewing graphs. This device has a 7-inch color touch screen with the ability to make independent settings. The components of the device include the following:
v Melt Flow Index (MFI) Measurement Device:
To identify the rheological properties of various polymers (plastics, nanocomposites, and compounds), the Melt Flow Index (MFI) is used. The melt index indicates the amount of melt exiting the nozzle in grams over a ten-minute period and is a measure of the flowability of materials in the molten state. This characteristic is an accepted index in the evaluation of two important properties: processability (extrudability) and the molecular weight of the polymer. The melt flow index has a somewhat inverse relationship with the viscosity of the melt and the molecular weight of the polymer.

v 20 Joule Impact Test Device
The investigation of the failure phenomenon due to stress application for different materials is carried out using various methods and standards. In general, this test is classified into two methods: free fall and pendulum. The impact test device produced by Sentam Company enables the impact test to be performed using the pendulum method. The pendulum impact test is performed using two methods: Izod and Charpy, which are determined based on the type of standard, capacity, and test method.
Device Specifications:

v 30-ton Single-Plate Hot Press
The hot press manufactured by Sentam Company has the ability to prepare polymer sheets under hot conditions to produce rubber and plastic samples for tensile, impact, bending, and other tests.
Device Specifications:

v pH Control Unit
The pH control device available in the Polymer Engineering Laboratory is manufactured by Pejvak Project Sanat. This device provides a set of conceptual experiments for the preliminary teaching of control engineering concepts under pH control. This laboratory unit consists of two peristaltic pumps, two feed tanks and a product tank, a tank for performing the reaction, a sensor, an industrial PLC, and an electrical box. The flow rate of the acid pump, unlike the open pump, is not manually adjustable and receives instructions directly from the PLC. During the experiment, the flow rate of the open pump is constant, and thus the pH of the solution in the glass tank is controlled by the flow rate of the acid pump. The control software provided with the pH control device displays the measured pH values and the percentage of the acid pump flow rate relative to the total flow rate, and with its help, the trend of changes can be observed and recorded for various factors.
